Project Brief

Welcome to my blogbook for my Negotiated Portfolio; the final module of my Ba(Hons) Journalism degree.

Please make sure you head right back to the oldest posts in order to see all of my thought processes and research, or if you prefer, click the tags relevant to the articles within the portfolio which can be found to the right hand side of the blog.

Many Thanks,

Project Brief

In this unit you will be required to produce an 8,000-word (or equivalent) portfolio of journalistic work that is targeted at existing publications and online media outlets, together with a log book or blog that documents your research and decision making process and a critique of your work.

Using the core journalistic skills already accrued on the course you will be expected to produce a number of pieces that demonstrate an appreciation of both audience and style. With the support of a tutor and through peer group work you will initiate ideas and develop a portfolio of marketable stories.

Your portfolio must include an appreciation of online journalism and include at least one item that is written/designed for the web. You may, if you choose to, submit a new magazine concept for part or all of this assignment.

Fashion Features

Fashion is a prominent part of Cosmo magazine. There are two types of fashion features in Cosmo. The first is a high fashion shoot showing models and information about the outfits they are wearing.
Photobucket
The second is more of a montage of high-street fashion and accessories.
Photobucket
Either way, the outfits and accessories are carefully selected bearing in mind certain criteria. These are:
·         Current and upcoming trends
·         Affordability
·         Special offers/Deals
·         Current popular retailers
For my fashion article I want to follow the montage style.
I will be researching summer swimwear following the current and upcoming fashion trends. I will begin by picking three separate trends and finding selections of swimwear matching these trends. Following this I will be separating the swimwear into three sections: Budget, Mid-Range, and Designer/Luxury price ranges. This way the reader will be able to find a swimwear following their favourite trend and at a price specifically for them. Information on price and where to purchase the item will also be included.
This article is relevant in the run up to summer as people will be getting ready to buy their swimwear for holidays. Splitting the items into different price ranges will also help the reader find exactly what they are looking for within their budget.
This feature will primarily be image based but will involve a lot of research and will be a three page spread.
