Project Brief
In this unit you will be required to produce an 8,000-word (or equivalent) portfolio of journalistic work that is targeted at existing publications and online media outlets, together with a log book or blog that documents your research and decision making process and a critique of your work.
Using the core journalistic skills already accrued on the course you will be expected to produce a number of pieces that demonstrate an appreciation of both audience and style. With the support of a tutor and through peer group work you will initiate ideas and develop a portfolio of marketable stories.
Your portfolio must include an appreciation of online journalism and include at least one item that is written/designed for the web. You may, if you choose to, submit a new magazine concept for part or all of this assignment.

Reviews Feature first Draft
Rhianna - Loud
Rhianna is just one of those girls that we just wish we could be; consistently a fashion focus and rumoured to be getting close to a certain Mr Usher Raymond, we couldn’t be more ‘jel’. Despite this she has still had time to roll out the hits on her fab new album; ‘Loud’. The album features 11 tracks from the Caribbean princess and if it still hasn’t made it onto your i-Pod then there better be a good excuse.
This album is full of songs to match your every need. Feel like screaming at your lazy boyfriend? Let rip to ‘Only Girl in the World’. Need a ballad for a good cry? Try ‘California King Bed’. Time to cheer up your heart-broken girlfriend? Turn up ‘Raining Men’ featuring Nicki Minaj. Whatever you need, Rhi Rhi has it covered.
As well as a succession of hits that have already been released, including ‘What’s My Name’ featuring Drake, the albums unreleased tracks are just as good. Remember the Eminem track ‘Love the way you lie’ which feature Rhi Rhi’s beautiful vocals on the chorus, well check out our princess’ haunting own version of the track, it’s sure to pull on your heart strings.
Blare out track 1 – ‘S&M’ as you get ready to go out to practice your bump and grind.
Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday
Nicki Minaj is the hottest female artist around at the moment and we just can’t get enough of her. Pink Friday is the first studio album to be released and has 13 hip hop beauties for us to get our teeth into.
Reviews Information and Research
I have decided to pick only commercial albums for my reviews section. This is because the majority of the Cosmo readers will also be interested in popular music by stereotype.
The albums I have chosen to review are:
Rhianna - Loud
Jessie J - Who You Are
Britney Spears - Femme Fatale
Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday
Chris Brown - F.A.M.E

Rationale for Reviews.
Cosmopolitan magazine does not currently have a defined music reviews section. I enjoy writing reviews and feel it is one of my strongest writing styles. I wanted to write with the same style of Cosmopolitan if they had a defined reviews section. It will contain popular music selections that would be potential favourites of the target audience.

New Reviews Section!
In the current format of Cosmo, there is not much with regards to reviews of music, films or books. I want to create a reviews feature in the style of Cosmo. This feature will be written in the style discussed which is shown in every magazine and will contain 8-10 music album reviews for albums due for release in the summer. This will then be split into two sections;
· Music for chilling out on the beach or in the park in the sunshine
· Summer party music
Each section will include 3-4 current or new albums and one old classic album. The peg will be “What to have on your i-Pod this summer” and will blend the music reviews with the Cosmo style. I think this will make for a really interesting feature. It could also contain fact boxes for “tracks to skip to” or interesting facts about the artists. This will hopefully be a double page feature spread and each review will be a maximum of 250 words.
