Project Brief

In this unit you will be required to produce an 8,000-word (or equivalent) portfolio of journalistic work that is targeted at existing publications and online media outlets, together with a log book or blog that documents your research and decision making process and a critique of your work.

Using the core journalistic skills already accrued on the course you will be expected to produce a number of pieces that demonstrate an appreciation of both audience and style. With the support of a tutor and through peer group work you will initiate ideas and develop a portfolio of marketable stories.

Your portfolio must include an appreciation of online journalism and include at least one item that is written/designed for the web. You may, if you choose to, submit a new magazine concept for part or all of this assignment.

Fashion Article Research

As discussed, my fashion article will be a guide to affordable swimwear and accessories from accessible high street and online stores. The idea of the article is that it will be an image based shopping list.

Rationale for fashion feature

The swim suit fashion feature piece is relevant to the market of Cosmopolitan and with summer on its way. The audience will be preparing to buy swimsuits and beach accessories ready for summer. I also thought a good twist for the feature would be to only include items from the high street or of affordable prices. If the reader has just spent a bulk of their savings on a nice holiday, finding swimsuits and accessories for the right price is vital.

Fashion Features

Fashion is a prominent part of Cosmo magazine. There are two types of fashion features in Cosmo. The first is a high fashion shoot showing models and information about the outfits they are wearing.

The second is more of a montage of high-street fashion and accessories.
